Question:

Car alarm warranties, please help?

When you install an alarm at a car dealership (not factory alarm), I guess what they call out of market or something like that, you know where you install the alarm separately for a separate charge, do they usually get lifetime warranty on the car alarms or is there always a limit? Reason I ask is because my parents heard but don‘t exactly recall but they thought that the car alarm had lifetime warranty or heard the salesman saying it (but again not sure) but I call the dealership and the service department and there‘s only a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty and that they don‘t even offer lifetime warranty. In this case, should I just trust what they say or go by old memory?

Answer:

I'm sure it's a 3/36000 warranty for after-market alarms. I've never heard of a lifetime warranty on after-market accessories.ever! 18+ years in car sales/management/finance
Doesn't matter what a salesman tells you for the most part, the only thing that matters is what is written down, so find those papers you signed to get it installed and read them. What they say will be what it is. The rest is called puffery. Puffery as a legal term refers to promotional statements and claims that express subjective rather than objective views, which no reasonable person would take literally. Puffery serves to puff up an exaggerated image of what is being described and is especially featured in testimonials.
