Car Mechanic Question: Brake and Tail light?

I have a 2000 Honda CR-VThe back, driver's tail light doesn't turn on. I replaced the bulb, which was when I noticed that the break light and the tail light are both the same light--however, the break light DOES work, but the tail light doesn't. This doesn't really make sense to me.Every other tail light works, except for that one. What could this mean? Is there something I'm missing?

Answer:

Check for burnt socket and the two hot sides for voltage. Also check ground continuity on that side.
the bulbs has a double filament and if one of those wires burn off it won,t light up on one side !
sounds like you have a break in the wire of the tail light socket check for power with a test light
Your brake light and taillight are the same bulb however inside the bulb there are two filaments one for the brake light and one for the tail light. Replace the bulb and your problem will be solved
Test light light socket to make sure you are getting power for both the tail light and brake light. If no power, test the wires. Could also be a fuse.
