Carbon / aluminum bike frames snapping ?

Carbon / aluminum bike frames snapping ?My front forks sheered off - causing me to crash and break my clavicle. The bikes was not v oldAnyone else suffered this.I've now gone back to steel forks with a threaded headset. As the bike was A-Head, when the fork steerer snapped off, everything 'let go'.Not good - Not many steel frame makers left that use threaded headsets - I'm now afraid to ride a bike with Carbon or aluminium forks now- ditto A-Head forks. Thanks,

I think that your unfortunate situation was just a flukeI have found that any fork, regardless of material, can fail if it is defective in some way or was crashed hardAs a part time - during the summer - bike shop worker, I haven't seen many broken forksAnd of those that I have seen, they weren't specific to whether it was steel, aluminum, or carbonAs a side note, as far as the carbon forks go, I've seen many of those being raced on cyclo-cross bikesCyclo-cross racing is hell on the bike frame and forkYet, I have not witnessed one breakSo, the only thing that I can figure is that your situation was just a fluke _ or as you stated, a freak accident _ from the fork being defective in some way without you knowing itAnd keep in mind that any material can have defects.
