I had my cartilage pierced at a studio with a needle [ not a gun ] 5 months ago.The bottom hole was pierced on the rim of my ear, but sadly a bit too close to the surface. My industrial bar fits fine but i am not happy with the placement anymore.Even when i wear dark jewelry in my ear you can see it through my skin. I'm scared that if i catch it it will tear because its not in the thickst bit of cartilage. The piercer obviously didn't know what he was doing because he didnt pierce it far back enough..I wish i had realised at the time but the fact that it was close to the surface wasnt noticable until someone mentioned it.I am wondering will the hole close up if i take out the jewelry and can i get it re pierced firther back because i still want an industrial..i also am wondering if i will be left with a noticable scar? can i get it re-pierced?and has anyone ever had the same kinda thing happen to them?thanks![sorry for so many questions this has been bugging me
It wont leave a noticable scar. But the reason why they dont do it to far in now a days is because that it can shatter the cartilage. And they will most likely leave a scar.So be careful in what you want because this has happend to me.So be careful and listen to me on what I say.
I would suggest finding a really good piercer and asking their opinion on the placement. It may have been placed there for a reason. I would ask a professional before you take it out just in case it had to be pierced that way. It would suck to have to redo it and it be done the same way. ?Good luck.
Other than the placement it sounds like it is doing fine. If you think it is too close to the surface then by all means remove the jewelry. Wait a few months for it to close and go to a better piercer to have it redone. Good luck!
I dont think it should be that close to the edge of the ear. Mine isnt as thin as yours. You should go to another piercer and ask their opinion. If you have a different sized/shaped ear, that could have something to do with the placement of the barbell. How long have you had it? If it has been less than a year, you should be able to just take it out and let it heal then just get it pierced later. I dont know about the scarring tho.
Get to a good piercer for an opinion. The skin will grow back, but the cartilage will have a hole in it. You won't know, though, one the skin is healed over it. I wouldn't get it repierced in the same spot. But then you have the problem of the angle on the good side of the piercing...so maybe when you get a better piercer, they could recommend a placement that would still fit that angle but create a new, separate second hole. Possibly use a curved bar or custom shaped one so that angle stays good on the hole you're keeping? They do make different shapes for industrials. And good job being one of apparently few around here to get a piercing the right way (even if he wasn't a great piercer after all) and taking care of it so it healed well!
