I know fabrics like Microfleece, polyester and Suedecloth work best for keeping baby dry, but I‘m afraid they might be processed with a lot of chemicals (can‘t find anything about it online). So how about Organic cotton or hemp or bambooanyone know how well those kinds of diapers work. I know cotton stays wet against baby‘s skin, and I‘m afraid to use it for overnight. Any eco-friendly and baby friendly suggestions on good brands?
I have some synthetic fabrics, but most of mine are organic natural fibers: cotton, bamboo, and hemp. My favorite ones: Swaddlebees Econappi, Goodmamas (fitteds or the One), Bumgenius organic AIOs, and my Hemp Babies prefolds. My BG bamboo fitteds ROCK, but they have been discontinued. :( For nights I do prefer my hemp blend prefolds with a hemp doubler; my daughter is 4.5 months and a heavy wetter, and this keeps her comfy all night long! *LOL at the first poster. Are you really not aware of the horrible chemicals present in disposables? Or that they are linked with male sterility? Do some research before you answer a question, ok? ;) Edit: It's really easy to use cloth; I have been doing it with two kids now for a total of about 2.5 years. :) It's only an extra load of laundry every 3 days. And while out and about I chuck wet diapers in my wet bag. No biggie. Edit2: kitten, not sure if you're referring to me, but I was talking to dressy, who was advocating pampers and huggies.
I'm working on switching my daughter over to cloth diapers due to her getting rashes from the chemicals in disposables so I've been looking into this a lot. Apparently hemp and bamboo are more absorbent. So far I've bought 2 bottom bumpers diapers that are made with organic cotton and I'm loving them. They seem to hold a lot, I haven't had any leaks so far and they are surprisingly thin (I can fit pants over them and it looks no different than a disposable would). I would definitely recommend the bottom bumpers, they are the first brand I have tried but I'm happy with them and will be getting some more.
I was going to go the cloth route and read a lot of good things about bumGenius brand of cloth diapers. I also had seen few mothers use them on their older babies so they must work or they would have given up. I am using Nature Babycare disposable diapers- their tag line is go green without giving up performance. I love them- they maybe a good alternative for you while out and about as I know a lot of mothers who use cloth diapers will use disposable nappys whilst out and about. The disposable nappy I use are Natures Babycare: Per the website Your Baby’s Wellbeing When it comes to your baby’s wellbeing you have a choice. A choice between environmentally friendly nappies based on natural materials that provide superior performance and are gentle on your baby, or your everyday run-of-the-mill nappy so often based on petrochemicals. That’s why our nappies are: * 100% chlorine free * Based on biodegradable materials with a biodegradable back sheet * 100% GM free *LOL Poster below- do some research on the nappys I am talking about before you get cheeky
