Computer Hard drive question!!?

Is the hard drive in a computer likely shielded by a metal casing? Why or why not? This is dealing with protecting it from magnets.

Answer:

yes most hard drives have a metal shield. While that does prevent magnetism in some of the newer drives.magnets are still a huge threat to a hard drive. I would not bring the two close. I have had many hard drives lose data because of magnets.
The platters are made from a non-magnetic material, usually aluminum alloy or glass, and are coated with a thin layer of magnetic material. Older disks used iron oxide as the magnetic material, but current disks use a cobalt-based alloy and non-magnetic.
Hard drives are shielded by a metal casing to protect it from dust, magnets, human touch, since it contains sensitive information that can be destroyed very easily if anything gets in contact with it. Thats why when they make it in the factory, everyone is wearing lab coats and suits, and it's a germ free work environment.
