What year were copper based paints banned from boat bottoms?
copper is fine it will not be banned, i believe you are thining of TBT paint, most antifouling paints contain copper
Are they? I don't think so. TIN based is banned....
I'm from the ol' school. Copper is used in ablative paints. the boat must not remain out the water for long after coating. I also cheat (I hope I don't get caught) I add arsenic to the paint as nothing will grow around it. my neighbors don't haul out as often as they used to.
Copper is still used - I just had our 80' done and it was with a cuprous oxide based paint. Tin-free antifouling are now available for effective protection for aluminum boats, outdrives & outboards.
