Question:

Copper Pipe Need some info ASAP!!?

OK, so me and my fiance went to look a house for sale yesterday and we defiantly want to buy it BUT there is one problem. This is a foreclosure home and we believe the seller took out the copper piping (for plumbing) assuming to sell it to make some money. The basement isn't finished and that is how we noticed the copper pipes were missing. We didn't look upstairs and check to see if some was missing but we plan on going back to look this Saturday w/ a plumber. I just wanted to get an estimate on how much copper cost in Virginia. Also, what if we need to do the whole house over w/ copper- how much would it cost (3 bed rooms and 2 baths ( also a rough in for a bath room in the basement but hasnt been done and not sure if we will do that right now or not! Any info will help!! Thanks!

Answer:

suggest that you may not necessarily need to replace with copper. Suggest to Check the plumbing code requirement in your part of the country : you may be able to switch to piping that is more affordable.
Copper prices have gone through the roof, $ 1100 a ton, personally I would go for the new plastic, with just copper where it shows.
That would be a good question to ask your plumber when you bring him out. Without seeing the house, there is no way anyone here could give an accurate answer. There are a lot of variables. Does pipe need to be fed inside the wall? Does drywall need to be torn off and replaced? How many fittings need to be installed to get the pipes where they need to be? If the first estimate sounds high, get a couple more. Most contractors will give free estimates. Compare the estimates closely to be sure that you have apples to apples bids. Hope this helps.
