Hi. I would like to build a copper reduction maschine based on electrolysis,with a copper sulfate electrolyt solution...i just do not know if the quantity of refined/recovered copper depends on the voltage or the amperage?I want to refine as much as possible in a short time period and as fast as possible,that is why i would like to know what arangements do i have to have higher voltage or higher amperage???Thank you guys.

Since the amperage is the rate of flow of electric current, a higher amperage will cause the copper to plate out faster, other items being equal. One ampere equals 1 coulomb of electrons, or 6.28 * 10**18 electrons passing through the circuit per second. That is, 1 A = 1 coulomb per sec. or 6.28 * 10**18 electrons per second. Avogadro's number (6.023 * 10**23) electrons is equal to about 96,500 coulombs so you can figure out the total electron flow needed to plate out a desired amount of copper. Remember each copper atom requires two electrons to reduce it from a Cu++ ion to a neutral atom. But higher amperage means greater electron flow rate and faster plating out. Higher voltage will cause higher current flow, all other things being equal.
