Question:

Could i do without the wire harness?

I tried to put a cd deck into my car but i got power and sound barely out of the passenger door speaker. My friend that helped me with it said just go get the wire harness and see how it works. could i do without the harness and just try to splice them together or not?

Answer:

You can, but you have to be really careful and research what you're doing. And if you mess it up, it'll be hard and expensive to fix. Imagine your car with NO working radio/deck, and you can see why that's important.
All depends really how much work you want to do, not matter what you are going to hvae to some splicing. But the harness makes the job ALOT easier.
if you are a novice (it's okay to admit), then drop like 6 bucks on the harness and save yourself hours of research, trial and error. it is, of course, possible to not use the harness but if you choose to do so you are better off routing entirely new speaker wire to all your speakers and if you do that, you may as well get a four-channel amp and replace all of your stock speakers. it'll be about the same amount of work and sounds a million times better. trust me, though, just go get the harness.
you can but i highly recomend gettin the harness cuz its much easier, and it dont cost that much, i wouldnt cut the wires of the car
most audio equipment has directions of where wires in the back go to. You have a wire crossed somewhere if you get no power to the drivers side now. Also make sure that you play with the balance and fade. Cuz if you have them misadjusted you could have power routed to a nonexistent rear speaker with the fade and then balance to one side barely only.
