Question:

Could I have an ant colony in the sofa on my back porch?

I have a three-season porch where my kitty lives, and I have a couch out there for him. But I keep finding little piles of sawdust on it. I thought it was just kitty litter, but it's only in one place. Then a few weeks ago, a large number of dead ants started showing up around the sawdust. I've cleaned them up several times, but they keep coming back. I haven't seen any live ants, except for a few that were in the process of dying.I had ants in my house this spring, and I put out ant traps. Could this be where they are coming from, and where they're dying? I haven't seen one in my house for weeks. And if there is an ant colony in the sofa, what's the best way to get rid of it?

Answer:

Yes, you could have an ant colony in the sofa. The little buggers can set up shop pretty much anywhere. Some species of ants actually build their colonies in wood. In nature they prefer trees. Sometimes dead, sometimes not. But if your sofa has a wooden frame, they could decide that's good enough. If that really is where the ants are living, the best way to get rid of them is to get rid of the sofa.
Yes you do and i hear they call it Sofa Porch Arms.Very hard to get a place there unless you know some one....i mean some ant! [but i hear the owner is about to Black Flag the whole building...i mean sofa!, i mean ,wait what the h~ll are we talking about?.
