Question:

could you insert wire into an electrical outlet?

i mean i know its SUPER dangerous but if you are trying to make a circuit and insert a wire into a socket, and if you don't touch it, could it still work?? im not saying im going to do this in real life, but i have to make a picture of a rube goldberg machine and would it work, if you didnt touch the wire?

Answer:

I kill you, if you do, said the hot wire. Yes, you could. Yes you could die. No, don't do it.
Yes, why not? Other than safety of course. A plug end is really only copper wire that has been flattened to form a spade end. I have done this to test motors or ??? I do not recommend it, better to get a plug end and wire it to the wire and electrical tape it prior to plugging it in.
Inserting a wire into outlet is dangerous and may cause spark,it may come out. Better connect plug to the wire and insert in the proper way after switching off.
The residential modern electric outlet has three holes. The rounded one, the ground, would not normally be a threat when you put a wire into its opening if the house wiring were installed per Code. One of the other two holes is a neutral wire connection, or could be a hot wire connection depending on the original electrician wiring the house. If you put a wire in one of those two holes, the ones that are side by side in the outlet, you may or may not have an ability to receive a shock, depending if you put your wire into the hot opening. Even then, if you did touch the hot wire stuck in the hot opening, and if you didn't touch a grounded element in your house, you wouldn't receive a shock. If you did touch a grounded element in your house, you could be electrocuted, and that wouldn't be nice. I'm not sure what you are experimenting with, but, unless you put at least two wires into the outlet, at the neutral and hot openings, you could not get a complete circuit to energize any experiment; you could then really hurt yourself! Best to let this experiment go until you are older, and have an electrical, knowledgeable person help you.
