Question:

curing cement with a sprinkler?

My daughter has had a 1200 sq ft pad poured. She was told to quot;keep it wetquot;. Due to her needing to leave town for two days, she has asked me to go to her house and use a sprinkler and water it 3 times per day setting the timer for 120 min each time. Is this correct for curing and how many days should this be done? Today is the 2nd day.

Answer:

the concrete is only to be watered for a short time just to get the top wet this is done so it does not dry out to quickly in hot weather which will cause it to crack. You have most likely watered it enough
yes dont soak it just sprinkle with water every day or few days
You're home and dry Mum - take a break and relax now
Concrete curing time is at least 72 hours. Concrete needs moisture in its curing process. It adds to its durability too and minimizes cracking. One way to help it stay moist during curing process is to trap the moisture that evaporates from it during curing by covering it with plastic. If you don't want to do this. what you are doing is fine, keep it wet. good luck!!
just keep it damp. it water is left to set on top the the cement you could rune it. keeping it damp will force the concrete to dry from the inside out and thus make it harder. i would say that you need do this for about two days, you may need to adjust this depending on how hot it is in your area. Best to get a Pro take a look. I would ask at your local Home Dept.
