Question:

Difference between piano and keyboard?

I have a keyboard. And I can't find any keyboard sheet music or tabs. My keyboard has 49 black white keys on it. Less than what a piano has. So I can't play regular piano sheet music on it. Does anyone know of any sites with FREE keyboard sheet music or tabs?

Answer:

There ISN'T a different between a piano and a keyboard. They're played exactly the same way, they just have a different way of making sound. A keyboard is electronic, while a piano has little hammers inside that his against strings, making a large resonating sound inside that spreads elsewhere. Both of them make the same pitches, if they're properly tuned. Also Keyboards can be bought with different amounts of keys, for a larger range.

yeah there is a big difference. pianos are always better than keyboards in terms of sound quality (unless you have an extreeeeemely bad piano XD). most keyboards also dont have the same feeling, since the keys arent weighted. if you learn on only keyboards, then it'll probably be tough to get used to a piano later on when your fingers are already adapted to a keyboard. other than those two things, keyboards and pianos are basically the same (same notes, same technique used to play them, etc.). if u cant afford your own piano, then i guess itd be best to keep practicing on your keyboard at home and then try and find a place where you can practice for free on a piano to get used to it at the same time. u can probably do this at a local school or maybe a college. good luck :)

There actually is a difference. A piano has strings to create a purer sound. What comes out of the piano is the actual instrument playing. A keyboard has either prerecorded piano sounds, or computer generated sounds. This produces a more synthetic sound. Both are great and have their advantages, depending on what you are using them for. As for your sheet music not working on a keyboard, there's no easy solution. You most likely won't find keyboard-specific music anywhere on the internet too easily. Probably the easiest thing is to transpose the bass cleft up one octave, where possible. Or alternatively, if the treble is too high for your keyboard, transpose it down one octave. Harder is to change keys completely, but I wouldn't recommend that if you don't have several years of experience. Hope this helps!
