Question:

Different types of copper?

So I have some copper I want to scrap but when I called the yard to get prices they said there is two types and they are running $1.10 and $1.00. How would I tell the difference between the two and would I have to separate them before bringing them in?

Answer:

This has nothing to do with chemistry or mineralogy, it most likely is to do with the NATURE of the copper being brought in. It may be that plate copper or plumbers' copper pipe trades at the higher price and copper wire trades at the lower price. It maybe that the lower price relates to copper wiring that hasn't had the plastic coating removed. Ask them to be specific; what copper items do you pay $1.10 /lb for and what items do you pay $1.00 / lb for?
