Question:

do crusher mantis shrimp ignore fish?

am i correct in that? spearers hunt fish and crushers go after inverts? theres a crusher in my tank i just found as a hitchhiker and i dont care as long as it wont bother my fishi can always buy more hermits and snails

Answer:

I'm thinking if the fish is small enough to be eaten. The Mantis will take advantage of that situation. He should leave the bigger fish alone.
Mantis shrimp know what they can kill and they will kill what they can eat. Mantis shrimp really are best in a species only tank. It doesn't matter what shape their fist are. I got a small green mantis and gave him his own tank. I put a yellow watchman goby in there and it seems fine. Everything in the tank is a good deal bigger than the mantis and seems fine. Small snails are what stays in the greatest danger. Limpets seem to breed good in my tank. A large enough breeding population could keep the mantis supplied with food. Cerith snails may be another good option. You can also feed them frozen foods most of the time. As for any fish in the tank. size does matter. but don't be surprised with anything. I'm always considering taking my goby out of the mantis tank. I don't think he feels safe in there.
Mantis shrimp generally reek havoc on reef tanks. They can even break the tank. Now I'm not sure about crushers, I thought they all were dangerous to you, and to all the life in the tank. Thumb splitters they call them.
