Question:

Do I need Live Rock and Sand? Or?

Can I keep Live Rock without Live Sand? What are the benefits since the Live Sand costs a hell of a lot more than the Live Rock I‘m Buying, so please tell me the cons and pros of Live Sand AND ROCK. Could I just use some other form of fine substrate such as fine dolomite? Thanks!

Answer:

umm the one that toyota put on there is the best
An electric exhaust cutout would be best in performance. Look at youtube to find which sound suits you.
All you need to do is buy Coral sand which runs about a buck a pound I think. Live rock runs 3 - 10 buck or more depending on quality. To speed up the cycling of the tank you can buy a few pounds of live sand to seed the coral sand. The more live sand/rock you add to the tank at the beginning will kick off the cycling that much faster. But it is not required. Basically the tank will cycle reguardless of what you put in the tank. But by buying live sand and rock out of an existing tank you can get alot of suprizes. The last Live rock that I bought I ended up with a black brittle star. You can get alot of your cleaning crew from buying live sand and rock from an active system. But if its not what your looking for they you can do things for a lot less. Good Luck PK
Injen SES. Blow your mind. It's quiet but when you get on it, it roars.
