If I just have one krk speaker is that ok or is it neccesary to have one?Also what is the difference between the passive and active speakers?
Most people like to hear their speakers in stereo - you need two for that. One will work by itself but it is not recommended for serious listening. You will like the sound of two better. Active speakers have the amplifier built in - passive speakers need an external amp.
