Question:

Do we know anything about the Bulldozer cpu yet? Will it compete with i5-2500K? or i7-9xx?

i7-9xx such as i7-965 etc...I see that the cost of building an intel i5 system is hundreds of dollars more than an AMD phenom ii.I could go for Phenom II x6 with an AM3+ board (do bio-flash when I upgrade to Bulldozer) for hundreds of dollars less and just upgrade to bulldozer whenever I get the funds available...People keep saying, i5... i5... i5... and I am starting to lean in that direction, but it seems that if Bulldozer really does compete well with intel when it comes out, then I will regret spending all that money on i5 instead of spreading out the cost for a Bulldozer upgrade in a year or two...I am aware that phenom II x6 processors dont perform as well as i5. My main purpose for this computer will be engineering. I need a system that can handle multiple threads and do some heavy number crunching. I am a new student in Electrical Engineering with an enhanced Computer engineering option.

Answer:

Of course yes! Bulldozer its going to be a super-chip! Especially when it comes down in single threaded apps! At last a cpu worth buying! Also I saw a vid, i5 vs amd fusion. Amd was way faster!!!
i think of the only form which could compete with intel's quickest is the 125w FX-8130p ($320). i think of this is going to burn by using extra juice whilst in comparison with the Intel processors. i'm no longer looking forward to plenty out of the 95w Bulldozer processors. Who is acquainted with? only a fanboy might say Intel is a schoo-in or that the FX sequence can no longer compete with the middle i5-i7 sequence. human beings have been on right here and different boards announcing AMD may be achieved after the Radeon 4000 sequence... have been they ever incorrect. you be attentive to that precise now some chinese language guy is wrapping an iPhone 5 in this is packaging. yet, all of us be attentive to no longer something approximately that telephone. AMD has under no circumstances quite leaked out benchmarks of this is upcoming products. in the event that they did then human beings might supply up procuring what's at present on the marketplace. Leaking overall performance benchmarks isn't consistently a great corporation pass. only wait 3 weeks. Who is acquainted with what the motherboard expenditures would be. the launch of Bulldozer ought to further drop the costs of the Phenom II processors. FX-8130p: $320 FX-8110: $290 FX-6110: $240 FX-4110: $a hundred ninety
