Question:

do you leave your xmas cake in wrap/tin after itrs made?

I have just made my christmas cake and its just out the oven sitting in its tin and paper aroundm it,, it says leav e in the tin in the recipe i used ,does everyone else do it this way or is it best to take it out of the tin etc.?

Answer:

First of all, the attic should be insulated between the joists for the ceiling - all the horizontal surfaces - to at least R-19 or more (I've raised mine to R-33)If there are any rooms up there, the walls should be insulated, tooPicture the insulation completely covering / wrapping all the inhabited areasThen the attic should be vented like you describe to prevent condensation and moldThe drier vent should go outside the house if it's electric, and must go outside if it's gas, as the discharge contains products of combustionThe drier exhaust will contain a huge amount of water vapor that will condense on any cold surface in the houseDitto the bathroom vent, or lack thereofAll that water left in the air will condense on the windows, and cause water damage to the window sashes (learned that the hard way)The crawl space could be considered the attic upside-downThe floor joists should be insulated, and then the crawl vented as you describeIf the attic and crawl are not insulated, then you are flushing a considerable amount of money down the sewer with all that fresh air interacting with the conditioned spaces.
The vents for the attic have to remain open or condensate will form in the attic and you will have a real problem with moldWhen heat passes through the ceiling it is lost forever, so closing attic vent doesn't help conserve heatThe vents in the crawl space should be closed only if the possibility of pipes freezing in the winterCovering the ground in the crawl space with plastic would surely help with window condensationMoisture is coming out of the ground and entering the houseMaybe your windows are old and leaking air that lets moisture form.
actaully, i take it out of the tin and wrap it in aluminium foil paper to keep the moisture
