Question:

Does a 1999 Mazda Miata have a front license plate bracket?

I just got a 1999 Mazda Miata and I can't find out if it's suppose to have a front license plate bracket. Or is the license plate just bolts into the bumper.

Answer:

Miata License Plate Bracket
Every car has the option of a front mount license plate bracket, however, as it is not required in all states to have a plate in front and back, it depends on what state your car was sold in as to weather or not it came with one. You should be able to buy one from your Mazda dealership for $30-50 that is designed for it. And yes, they make aftermarket brackets as well that will run anywhere from $5-20. Usually these are sold at your local DMV or BMV

Go to your friendly local Mazda dealer. All manufacturers are required to provide license plate mounting for both the front and rear. If you bought the car used, it's possible the previous owner was in a state which didn't require a front plate, and took it off and pitched it. Now you're in the barrell for the cost. If your front bumper has a flat area for the plate, go to the local parts store and pick up a couple of square license plate nuts. Drill two holes the proper size for the nuts to snap into, and attach the plate. Now go see your friendly cop. Since you made the effort to comply with the law, he (or she) may just tear up the ticket.
