Question:

does a brushless dc motor uses dc current to power itself or ac current?

also when working in generator mode, what type of current is generated ac or dc???

Answer:

you usually plug in a d.c. motor you usually generate a.c., then convert to d.c. Don't forget to vote for best answer!
Good question. Permanent magnet synchronous motors are AC machines that use PMs. These machines perform like true DC machines in that the torque is directly proportional to the current; however, the currents are either trapezoidal or sinusoidal. Calling these machines a brushlees machine is a misnomer, but it is done often. Now a true brushless DC motor uses DC currents.
AC Current is used to propel the brushless DC motor. The DC current you're supplying is converted to AC current by its circuitry to create an oscillating magnetic field. This oscillating magnetic field in the stator interacts with the permanent magnet in the rotor, causing it to rotate. In generator mode, AC current is generated.
