Does CuSO4 reacts with silver or copper?
CuSO4 reacts only with Ag forming AgSO4 and Cu metal.
the products of reaction of Cuso4+Cu is the same with reactant. After the displacement we still have Cuso4 and Cu
It will not react with either of the two Silver is less reactive than Cu so it cannot displace copper from CuSO4 solution.
That depends on the reactivity series. Because there is a rule that the more reactive metal can displace the less reactive metal, but not the less one can displace the more one. So according to the reactivity series So according to the reactivity series silver can not displace copper, because silver is less reactive while copper is more. Instead copper reacts with silver sulphate. So the equation is: Cu + AgSO4 + CuSO4 + Ag The copper is oxidised because it gained oxygen (sulphate) , while silver is reduced because it has lost oxygen. Hope you understood!
