Question:

does different color light effect fish?

So im in 8th grade and me and my friend are doing a science fair project on fish. we want to know if different color lights will affect physical or behavioral change in a fish. we are doing a red light a blue light and a green light.

Answer:

It would probably affect camoflaging fish like plecos. But it would make more algea grow the brighter the ligt gets and if it is brown algee and it dies their is a possible risk of it taking all the oxygen from your tank
Before you think about fish Learn about how to care for an aquarium. The cycling process and the maintenance. That way your fish will live first time around. Start with some guppies or platys they are hardy cheap and pretty. Also can live in a small tank.
brighter lights stress out low light fish like blind cave fish and things like that. it also changes what color they look. yellow light brings out colors better, and flourescent lights tend to wash colors on fish. also if you tun on a bright fish tank light in a totally dark room, it can cause the fish to have a heart attack and die. that is about all they fish related light information i know :) hope i helped :)
it would make them look a different color but thats about it.
