Question:

Does my silver bar lose value if I take it out of the plastic?

I bought some fine silver bars and they came in plastic. Will the silver lose value if I take it out of the plastic?

Answer:

No, it's not like the plastic adds value to the bar, like with comic books or whatever. Because with comic books, what makes them valuable is the 'sentiment' people attach to them. What makes silver valuable is the fact that it's silver. So no, unless there's some sentiment attached to the plastic, you don't have to leave it in the plastic.
no- they will loose value if the market goes down.
Silver is silver in or out of a package or wrap. If the plastic is made of PVC then it would be wise to remove the silver bar before the plastic breaks down and puts a green slim on the bar. This slime can eat into the silver also. Some hard plastic and Mylar are archival and will not harm bars or coins. If the plastic has a strong plastic smell then remove the bar and find another way to store them. Such as a box made of hard plastic.
