Question:

Does Real estate agent need good credit?

I want to take the real estate test but I want to know if real estate agent need good credit. Im in Virginia by the way. Thank you

Answer:

Not unless you are buying a house. When I was an agent in NY credit had nothing to do with it.
A careful brokerage may check the credit report of potential agents.
Not more than any other person (i.e. good credit is better than bad credit). However, an agent typically works underneath a Broker (the next, higher level of license). As a Broker, sometimes good credit is necessary to develop business relationships with banks, etc.
When I was in real estate (20 years, now retired) my credit was checked by all of the three brokers I worked with over the years. I had to provide a copy of my car insurance, with the real estate company listed as co-insured, to make sure that I had adequate (high) coverage. My errors and omissions coverage was expensive, even though I never had a claim against me. It is not cheap to go into this business, so you must be committed to work hard for long hours to get started.
