So I had a giant bag of limes and I thought I could make a pie. I used the same recipe for key lime pies (just one can of sweetened condensed milk, 4 egg yolks, and a 1/4 cup of lime juice) but i used regular lime juice instead. Final product had no lime flavor whatsoever. So do the key limes have a more concentrated flavor than regular limes? why???
Nope. The only reason for the soda lime is to remove CO2 so you can use the same gases again and again. The Mapleson circuits (including the Bain, which is a modified Mapleson D) are non-rebreathing circuits, so there is no CO2 to absorb. The caveat with those circuits is that fresh gas flow must be higher than minute ventilation. They're OK for little babies, but they are very wasteful for adults - those high FGF suck up a lot of agent. A circle system can also be NRB if the FGF is high enough and it is semi-open.
