I am replacing my old electric oven with a new one. The wires on the old oven are the same as the wires on the new oven...white, red, black, and a bare wire. The wires running from the fuse box to the junction box are...white, black, and bare wire. This is 220/240 wiring from the fuse box. The oven does require 220/240. How do I wire the new oven?
You cannot do it legally.Someone may have done it before.Hooked up white from the oven and the bare to the bare of the fuse box. Is it a cable that runs from the panel to the stove or conduit ? Does it have a little slack ? It may be that it is a legitimate 3 wire cable and the red may have been cut .By skinning the cable back ,you may discover the red wire, possibly. If there are only the black .white and bare wires in the cable running it cannot be hooked up legally to the stove ? How far is it from the panel? That is the best we can give you for now.We need more info. You may have to bring a new 3 wire and bare cable from the panel.install a 50A stove receptacle on the wall. It is rare to see a new stove without a stove cord.It should come with the stove.
Didn't the new oven come with an installation manual? If you don't have one (maybe you got a used oven from a friend) try going to the website for the company that made the oven and find an installation manual there that you can download.
No. Any electrical appliance must be wired to meet, city, state, and local fireplace Deparment codes. By and large, the latter is the strictest. In most instances, this requires an character circuit . As most ovens are 230 Volt, AC, it would require no smaller that 12 guage wire, hooked up in conduit, from the breaker box, to the receptical. The receptical need to be an accepted range receptical. This circuit will have to be linked on the breaker box, to a minimum of a 30 amp, double pole, single throw breaker. A 40 amp breaker could also be required in some states. The applying should be wired, from the terminal block, with an accredited range twine.. Some cities might also require a permit, and /or a licensed electrician. Which you can by and large get the appropriate codes at your regional metropolis administrative center, or the neighborhood fireplace Station. As consistently, when working with electrical circuits, disconnect the vigor on the important breaker, and set up a tag-outlock out device on the breaker box, to avert electricution.
