I installed a deep water pump but have gotten wires crossed is there a way to check to see which is the hot and ground wire before hooking to power. I have a multi-tester but how to use it
The best way to do this without pulling the pump is to test the two motor leads individually with a multi-meter on its continuity or ohms setting.(horseshoe symbol) If you have a known earth ground source like a ground rod or water pipe etc. touch one lead of the tester to the ground source and the other to each wire individually. Whichever motor wire gives you the lowest ohm reading is most likely the ground wire.
sure, just connect the black lead to the ground wire, then try the two legs the nuetral will not read voltage. but the hot wire will.
