Question:

Emergency Lighting Differences?

Howis emergency lighting differ from regular lighting in design, operation and brightness?

Answer:

Emergency lighting is generally battery operated so has limited usage, <6hrs, they also are generally only bright enough to guide people to the exits and/or up and down the stairs. Most systems automatically switch on when the power goes out. If your question is referring to emergency light that you could use after a disaster, that is a different subject all together. I would recommend that you look into the Eton crank/solar lights.
