Question:

Engine rebuilding. About the valve shims.?

Alright. The engine is a 7mgte. The clearances for the skims in the intake side is 0.20mm and the exh side is 0.25mm. What happens if i mixed the shims?

Answer:

You can check the clearance with a feeler gauge of the correct thickness. If the gap is too big it will tick, idle will be rough, and throttle response will suffer.
It does make a difference on which shim goes where! Make sure pushrods are in the right place, i'm not sure on that type of engine but some engines have different lengths for pushrods intake could be different length than exhaust! You could also have a bad lifter.
I somewhat have a 2003 Honda XR 250 and the bike is great; low upkeep for a airborne dirt and dirt bike. The XR 450 has the comparable engine layout. it is going to be a solid bike. i will?t remark on a yamaha. the hot crf 450 desires lots extra upkeep than the xr 450.
What do you mean if you mix the shims? Like switch the shims between the two valves? If that's what you mean then you could be causing the clearance to become really small on one side and really big on the other. Just check the clearances with the engine at TDC or on the heel of the cam lobe and you should be fine. The tick tick noise would either come from to big of a clearance or no oil. So I guess the simple answer would be nothing would happen if you mixed the shims except the clearances would change. Thumper This engine doesn't use pushrods or lifters. The cam pushes down on the valve with with shim overbucket design
