Question:

Engine valve leaking?

I went look at a car, and the guy selling the car said that the engine valve is leaking. Is this a big deal? How urgent would it need to be fixed? How much would that cost?

Answer:

He most likely told you the valve cover is leaking. The words engine valve leaking don't make any sense or point to anything else. The valve cover covers the valves which have oil splashing around Sometimes the gasket that keeps the cover from leaking dries out and breaks. Then oil seeps out onto the engine. It's not an urgent fix. But then it's quick and cheap to fix, so most people fix it.
Valve cover? Generally a pretty minor job. Exhaust or intake valve? Generally a pretty extensive project.
No, the valve cover can't cause that. You're check engine light is probably disabled by the same *** that cut your catalytic convertor off. Thanks for cutting off your cat a polluting so you can drive your stupid truck around. Screw everyone as long as you can go squirrel hunting or whatever you do in that truck. It's hard to say what's wrong with it because you have negated the computers ability to control the fuel flow properly. It could be the mass airflow sensor or maybe a stuck fuel injector. Even with the computer whacked, a real mechanic should be able to figure it out pretty quickly if he has the proper diagnostic equipment. You may want to just change the O2 sensor anyway as it probably hasn't been changed for quite a while.
depend which valve it is exaust/inlet? but any valve in the engine would be pricey as they have to take the head of this meens a lot of labour and new seals.
well my guess would be u have a bad valve. just go to auto zone checkers pet boys anywhere and just get a new vavle...
