Question:

explain why some materials are magnetic and some are nonmagnetic?

explain why some materials are magnetic and some are nonmagnetic?

Answer:

because they have magnets in them
some substances move from weaker to stronger magnetic field and some substances move from stronger to weaker magnetic field like wood, platinum etc., water, zinc, bismuth are repelled to some extent. permanent magnets have domains in them which are aligned in the same direction and if this magnet is brought to some nail the nail becomes a temporory magnet.
These materials have areas within them call domains. Each domain has a magnetization that is pointed in a certain direction; when groups of domains are pointed in the same direction, the material is magnetized in that area (in the direction the domains are pointing).
