Does anyone know if Mazda puts break-in additives in the oil from the factory, or is it just straight oil ? I've got 1,000 miles on a new car and want to switch to synthetic oil, but I may wait if this "original" oil has additives in it.
There are no break in additives in the oil, but 1000 miles is too soon to change to a synthetic, wait till you have at least 4-6000 miles.
Additives are a thing of the past. If you want to switch to synthetic, go for it. I am sure someone will tell you not to switch to synthetic until the engine is broke-in, but this is a myth also. A lot of cars have synthetic in them right from the factory (Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari, Cadillac, etc).
