Any feedback on solar panels?
Solar panels are very good. Although they may start off expensive, they will soon make up for the money spent. But they will only be useful when facing south and in sunny-ish countries. :)
Our solar electric system has been up for 5 years now. No trouble so far, and output has not diminished noticeably. They have survived gale-force winds (gusting to 00 mph) without loosening. If I installed the same system today, it would have been half the cost for the same power, and smaller, too. Can't say I have any regrets. It keeps up with our yearly electricity demand, but we live in a mild climate. We only turned on our heat today, and have no A/C in the summer.
They work. If you have realistic expectations of them, understand their limitations and have a good knowkedge of electronics, you will be glad you have them, and you will also likely want to add more as you can afford them. If you need someone else to install them and you know little to nothing about electronics, your installation cost will be much higher. However they are not always a total solution, and for those wanting to continue using energy the way they do when attached to the grid they will be disappointed. You do need to make some changes to how you use energy. Get them for the right reasons, and at some point you can unplug your house from the gtid. Grid tir is fine for some, but highly overrated by those who wish to social engineer society to have things both ways- tied to the grid to produce power while letting the power company do it's thing to your appliances,
I have been totally solar for 4 years with the occasional use of a generator on rainy days which was only 6 hours last year. Understand that I live full time in an RV and power usage is much less than a conventional home. I do not have the need for air condition because I move with the climate. I have a propane refrigerator, stove, furnace and water heater. My solar system consist of 2 Kyocera Panels that produce 7.5 amps 7.5 volts DC and 35 Watts each a Blue Sky Energy 2000E Booster controller/charger with 4 Interstate 2200 6 Volt Golf Cart Batteries with a total of 450 amp hour storage and a 500 Watt Inverter. Kyocera gives the most bang for the buck. Total Cost: 2,00.00 Professionally Installed. This system provides more than an ample supply of AC and DC power and has paid for itself three fold.
Solar panels really works good and reduce the usage of electricity.
