Question:

Gas Shut off Valve??

I got a new gas stove, but I can't find a shut off valve to take the old one out and put the new one in. There isnt one behind the stove on the line, and i went under the house and followed the gasline and didnt find one down there either. Can any one give me ideas where else to look?

Answer:

call the gas company and they can help, probably shut the gas off at the meter
You will want to go out to your gas meter and shut it off there, you will have to relight your furnace and water heater if this is gas to. I would suggest that befor you put the new stove in that you add a shut off valve to the line, they are fairly inexpensive and not to hard to do yourself just make sure to use a gas line pipe dope. Good luck.
Do you have a meter some where outside of the house? The shut off valve is usually real close to that. It is the type that you have to take a wrench to turn it off. I'm not trying to insult you I'm just trying to help. There will be a narrow bar on it and it will be pointing parallel to the pipe at that point. You will have to use a crescent wrench and turn it 1/4 turn until it is cross ways to the pipe. Good Luck
Well, make sure to re-check the line. Usually and normally, all gas line have a shut off valve. Many new lines have a handle shut off type of valve, others you may need a pair of pliers to shut off. If you re-check and can't find one. Well your only choice is to shut gas at meter, which is very easy. You can use pair pliers or go to your local hardware and purchase a shut off tool. Oh.....and don't forget to change the line. Most corrugated type of line don't meet new standards. Usually, old lines being replaced with epoxy type of lines. Good luck.
theres one one by the gas meter
