first of all I'd like to know why are glass bottles better than plastic bottles and then is there a good time to switch over from glass to plastic?
plastic is said to be bad because of BPA ... they have BPA free plastic bottles but you still never know what is in it.. Glass is suppose to better being that there are no plastic concerns, they distribute the heat of the bottle evenly and that they can be thrown in the dishwasher on high heat so you know they are getting clean.. we have glass.. I like it.. its better to always use glass.. we don't have plastic anything.. just because.. why? for sippy cups we use clean canteen brand stainless steel ones.. best wishes..
Glass Baby Bottles Vs Plastic
Glass bottles have two advantages: They are better for freezing milk in, since the nutritious fats tend to soak into the plastic. This is a non-issue with most people, since most freeze in the special bags they sell, not bottles at all. The bags are (in theory) specifically designed so that the fats do not adhere to them during freezer. Also, plastic bottles can leach out chemicals into the milk. For example, there has been this whole big deal in the past few years about how bad BPA is, so now most bottles are BPA free. However, 10 years ago, no one thought BPA was a problem. So you have to ask yourself, what do they think is ok now that in 5 years they will find was leaching out and decide to ban? So those are the two main downsides to plastic. Obviously a downside to _glass_ is that they are heavier, clunkier, and breakable, and can be dangerous in that sense (more if you are letting baby carry around their bottle when they are older). They sell cloth sleeves to help that problem, and probably other accessories too. To me, it would make sense to switch over the glass when you size up bottles from the 4-5 oz size to the 8-10 oz size, since you would be buying new bottles then anyway. That was around 4 months for us. But, your baby will not notice one way or the other, so you can really do it anytime you wish.
