Question:

Has anyone installed a car alarm on their Honda at the Honda dealership?

I am wondering whether I should have one installed on a new Honda Civic. Any option for installing it other than at the dealership, or is it best to be installed there? Is it a good anti-theft device, or does it just get annoying with lots of false alarms? Do you think it is an effective deterrent to a potential thief, or has everyone become immune to the sound of the alarm/can it be deactivated easily? I am aware that there is no fool-proof method to protect your car against theft and that basically one is just making ones car a little less tempting. Any suggestions for the best anti-theft device/combination of devices?

Answer:

Newer civics have an immobilizer standard. The only way they could steal your car is if they: 1. tow it away 2. somehow get a brake code from the dealership and have a copied key to bypass the immobi. Alarms are annoying and have a tendency to be overly sensitive. If you have understanding neighbors maybe they wont mind your obnoxious alarm going off falsely at 3am. Just relax and be assured that the immobilizer equipped vehicles are not that easy to steal.
