Answer:

All I have to say is Good Luck! The Air Force fire protection AFSC is one of the hardest jobs to receive in all the military. The reason being is the military and Air Force especially is getting rid of military fire fighters and going with more civilians in that job. You can still try and get it, but it will be between slim and none. I tried several times to get that position and never could. Best advice, when he goes to MEPS, tell the person in charge of giving him his job, that fire protection is the only job he will accept and if he can not have that job, then he is walking. I'm almost sure they will find that job for him. If you can get the job, I have heard it is great. The FD was attached to my squadron when I was in the Air Force.
The Blackberry automatically requires data, the same data plans as the android phones. As for phones, I would recommend the Samsung Fascinate or Continuum. The Galaxy S phones are great, I've seen quite a few of Motorola's droids come back threw our doors because people are having problems. But I rarely see a Fascinate. For his purposes the Fascinate is spectacular. The screen looks great, its a very light phone, and has great battery life. If your looking for a serious recommendation though. I would say get the BlackBerry Bold 9650 or BlackBerry 3G for him, and drop him back to the $15 a month data plan. Unless he thinks he's going to be using apps and watching video, a Droid of any kind will be a bit overkill.
