Question:

headunit without wiring harness?

i have a headunit i wanna put in my car that a friend gave me but there are no wires on the back of it, is there supposed to be a wiring harness or something on the back? if so can i buy a cheap wiring harness someplace?

Answer:

Difficult one. What was in the car before? If there was a stereo in the car before, there should be some original wiring. If not, you need the following to get it to work: 1.12v constant live - usually from the cigarette lighter. 2.12v intermittent live - can be bridged from the constant, but the car will not turn off the stereo if you do it this way. some form of interior light / switch can be used. 3. Ground. Find a screw / metal plate and use an 'o' ring to secure it. 4. Speaker wires. You can get car specific harnesses at many places, which car do you have?
Yes it's suppose to have a wiring harness. You can try the website of the company that made the radio and see if you can buy a harness for it. Or if you give me the make and model of the radio i will try to find one for you.
