Answer:

It is smaller and stronger tasting. Its the fruit of a different lime tree (aurantiifolia) than a Persian tree (x latifolia), the most popular. Most of the Florida crop was damaged by a hurricane in 1926 and the only trees in the Keys remained. Hence the name. It is native to SE Asia vs the Persian from North Africa. Most that are consumed in the US are grown in Mexico.
Key limes are smaller and sweeter. If you use limes when it calls for key limes, your dish will end up a little more tart, and you'll have to adjust the recipe if it calls for a number of limes. You won't if it just calls for a certain amount of juice.
Key limes are smaller than Persian (regular) limes. The flesh and rind of key limes is yellowish green as opposed to the green of the Persian limes and Key limes are also juicier. Persian limes are less acidic than key limes and don't have the bitterness that lends to the key lime's unique flavor The high acidity and additional bitterness is why many people prefer to use the Key Lime in Key Lime pie, salsa and other foods that require high acidity,
Key limes are sweeter
