Question:

Help me expand these brackets (2+/2)(3+/5)(/5-2)?

I used / as a way of expressing the square root of. I've just never done 3 brackets before so i'm a little stuck and ways i see on interwebs are different to what my teacher told me. Thanks alot.

Answer:

I can appreciate your difficulties. (1) You are unable to type the sqrt symbol √ . For this go to Accessories system Tools Character Map. here you will get all the symbols you need. (2) You are unable to handle three brackets. The process is simple but only if you get nervous. Just follow the following procedure --- Your question is --- ( 2 + √ 2 ) ( 3 + √ 5 ) ( √ 5 - 2 ) ? distribute elements of the first bracket without touching the third one.--- [ 2 ( 3 + √ 5 ) + √ 2 ( 3 + √ 5 ) ] [ ( √ 5 - 2 ) ] ? simplify the distributed terms but dont touch the third bracket. [ (2)(3) + (2)(√ 5) + (√ 2) (3) + (√ 2) (√ 5) ] [ ( √ 5 - 2 ) ] [ 6 + 2√ 5 + 3 √2 + √( 2 x 5) ] [ √ 5 - 2 ] [ 6 + 2√ 5 + 3 √2 + √(10) ] [ √ 5 - 2 ] ? Now distribute the terms of the third bracket --- √ 5 [ 6 + 2√ 5 + 3 √2 + √(10) ] - 2 [ 6 + 2√ 5 + 3 √2 + √(10) ] ? Group like terms [ 6 √5 + 2 (5) + 3 √10 + 5√2 ] - [ 12 + 4√5 + 6 √2 + 2 √10 ] 6 √5 + 10 + 3 √10 + 5√2 - 12 - 4√5 - 6 √2 - 2 √10 ( 6 - 4 )√5 + ( 5 - 6 ) √2 + ( 3 - 2 ) √10 + ( 10 - 12 ) 2 √5 - √2 + √10 - 2 ? Arrange terms properly √10 + 2 √5 - √2 - 2 . Answer Answer Note : After a good practice you will be able to solve it in just 4 steps. .
