Question:

Help, my dog is throwing up plastic!?

I came home from work and saw my dog vomit up a piece of plastic, he has been throwing up off and on for the last couple of hours with bits of plastic in it. His last time however didn't have anything but bile in it. He is sleeping currently and hasn't thrown up. Do I need to worry further?

Answer:

my dog often swallows plastic things but he just poos them out and he doesn't get sick, but if I were you i would check at a veterinary because if you dont know what he has swallowed it could be dangerous. dont worry your a good dog owner for worrying about your dog. check if his behaviour is different, if he is eating well and if he drinks water regularly. If it was a small, and blunt piece of plastic it might all be out now, but if it was sharp and bit bigger then damaged something inside your dog's body and there might still be plastic left. just make sure your dog doesn't find any plastic lying around the house, in your backyard, and doesn't pick up any plastic while walking to make sure this doesn't happen again. your dog will probably be fine.
Are you REALLY going to rely on the advice of strangers when it's comes to what could be life or death for your dog? If so you should DEFINITELY not be a pet owner. Let me magically diagnose what your dog swallowed. And let me say oh don't worry, I magically know he'll be fine. Then you wake up tomorrow and find him dead because whatever he swallowed has blocked his intestines and killed him. But then I guess that would be someone on here's fault - not yours - since you took THEIR advice, eh?
I would take him to the vet because he could have gotten hold of something that can cut the lining in his colon or maybe he threw it all up but I wouldn't take that chance take him to the vet as soon as possible
I would take him to the vet if it starts up again, for know on keep plastic things he can chew away from him, make sure he drinks water and take it easy on the treats.
Absolutely you need to worry. Can you identify what kind of plastic it is? (Ie..from a Javex bottle, garbage bag, Tupperware container...) If there are hard plastics swallowed, and not properly broken down...bits of sharp plastic can actually cut up his insides when passing through his intestinal region! If it is not hard plastic, I would still contact a 24/7 question hot line, and fill them in on your situation. If it was indeed something like a Javex bottle, get him checked out immediately..as he could have ingested poisonous content.
