challenging stuff. search in yahoo or google. it could actually help!
There are some new chemistry cleaners called encapsulation You spray them on, they bond with the soil, then dry, crystallize and slough off. You then just vacuum up. If you are not going to wet-clean, then this is about all I can think of doing. The last I bought of this was about $8 for a quart (enough to do a sofa several times). Do you have a wet-dry shop vac? This will do reasonable job if you spray on some cleaners and water with a trigger sprayer.
The only thing I can suggest to you is renting a steam cleaner. Maybee you should just wait until you can afford it. Thats how I always clean mine.....with a Rug Dr. ( I actually just bought my own eventually because I was renting them so often with 4 kids and two dogs!) With large peices of upholstered furniture, like sofa's, that are REALLY dirt, spot cleaning with a wet rag isn't going to do much. But if you come up with the money to rent a steam cleaner, I would definetely try to spot clean it with a wet rag and mild detergent everytime something got on it to avoid having to steam clean it to often.
