I just went to a computer technician, and I have been having a lot of problems with charging my battery on my laptopI want to take it apart to take a look at the motherboard, but I don't have an anti - shock wrist bandNowhere in my town sells them, and the closest shops that do are about 2 hours awayHe suggested taking a 3 pronged grounding end of a cord, cutting off the top 2 prongs and leaving only the grounding prong leftThen, stripping the rubber wire on the non-grounding end of the cord and wrapping the wires around my wrist ( and plugging it into the wall )This sounds a bit dangerous to me, but I don't know enough about adapter cords to really judge correctly.

The important thing is to make sure that the laptop is not exposed to different potentials that can be created by static electricity chargesWhat I would do is spread out a sheet of aluminium foil (such as is used for cooking) on a table top and place the laptop and all your tools on the foil sheetConnect one corner of the sheet to the outside of metal water pipeYou can use a metal paper clip to hold a bare wire to the foil sheetAlso connect a wire from the foil sheet and tuck the other end of a bare wire inside your sockAny static charges should dissipate safely to the water pipe, and through the water down to earthDO NOT PUT ANY LIVE MAINS POWER LEADS NEAR THE FOIL OR THE LAPTOP, AND MAKE SURE THE LAPTOP'S MAIN BATTERY HAS BEEN REMOVEDYou should now be safe to dismantle the laptopPut any screws and components you remove on the foil sheetDO NOT APPLY POWER TO THE LAPTOP WHILE IT IS ON THE FOIL SHEETRemove it from the sheet and do not touch any internal components if you need to apply power to the laptop.
