Less than half of the rooms in our home are not heating. We have Radiators in each room. The system is a Hydrotherm boiler. The pressure is good at twelve to thirteen pounds and the heat is at 180 degrees. when bleeding the radiators, even the few that are warm do not flow out any water. The hot pipe coming out of the boiler is warm for twelve feet and then the further up you go, it gets cooler. I am thinking the circulating pump or the impeller? It seems like the water is not gettting to the radiators. It is flowing, just don't know how much volume. Any suggestions on what is going on or solutions would be great.
If it is forced hot water and you don't have any pressure gauges on your pump I would remove it and run it out of the system to see if it works or if your impeller is broken.
suggest it is the pump. Suggest to do a single gauge pressure check on the pump,(suction and discharge, with the pump running and that should tell you whether the pump is pumping or not.
I would have a heating contractor come and check your circulator pump and expansion tank. A defective pump could cause your problem. Also, if you have an old or defective expansion tank, air can be introduced into the system that way, so when you bleed out the air, the water recirculates the system and picks up more air from the tank and you will never get ahead.
You most probably have a lot of air in thesystem. Shut down the boiler, and leave for 10 mins. to give any air in the system time to rise to the top of the rads. Next, vent any air from your rads starting with the one nearest to the boiler. When you get any air dribbling from the air vent, let it run for about 30 seconds because you can get air bubbles trapped behind water. When you have finished venting the air, check the water pressure on the boiler and top up if needed. Then start the boiler up and see if it is any better. If your boiler has a header tank to feed it, make sure the header tank is full of water. Hope this helps.
