Question:

Hot water problem combi boiler?

Just had the plumber in to refit upstairs bathroom. Now we are only getting warm water throughout the house. Use the Worcester 28i combi boiler. Plumber had initially mixed up the hot and cold supply to the bathroom but that has been fixed. He is difficult to get a hold but will appear within the next few days. In the meantime anything i can do?

Answer:

most likely cause is the hot water thermostat, pull front of boiler you will see2 thermostats, hot water is usually on left a 50mm green knob, turn it up a bit , mine is at 12 o clock position. you should ensure the settings pointer in the screen is set on constant, bottom notch on left. make sure the boiler turns on when you open a hot tap and there is 1 to 2 bars of pressure on the gauge. the boiler is hot water priority, so should heat the water before operating the heating. good luck
There is a rubber Diaphram in the boiler which activates a micro switch, which gives a high temperature of hot water when the water is run. I would think this diaphram is worn and not activatibg the micro switch with enough pressure to do this. The Diapram is held in a round brass or metal holder with a number of small screws around the edge. it s position differs on different boilers, but it is located next to a micro switch. If you think you can get enough acess to it , turn off the water to the boiler by turning the taps off underneath the boiler, then undo the screws evenly, Remove and check the diaphram for wear. If it needs replacing, you take the old one with you, and take it to a plumbers merchant and buy a new one (Not expensive) . When you fit it, make sure that it fitted the same way around as the old one, then Tighten the screws until they are hand tight, then tighten down in opposite. It must be tightened equally . You can remove the side and bottom panels of the boiler to make acess easier.
Yeah, I'm thinking get another plumber too. Sounds like he fed the hot water back into the cold water feed. As to what you can do... I don't really think there's much... you could attempt to find the crossover yourself. (Follow the main feed to where it branches off to the heater, and then follow the hot water out to see if it feeds back in.) On one hand you might be able to point out his mistake, on the other, he might not like that.
Another plumber !
