How are electric generators and motors not similar?
Depends on what type of motor you are referring to. If you are referring to an AC motor or generator, a synchronous motor and a generator are essentially identical in physical construction, with the only difference being how you use them. Other types of motors will not be. An induction motor, for example, offers no way to excite the field if you were to use it as a generator because there is no connection point to the squirrel cage windings in the induction motor. A servo motor would be possible, but you would not be able to control the voltage if you used it as a generator because the field flux is fixed. A DC motor and generator may be identical if the DC motor has a stator winding. But if the stator is a permanent magnet, as stated before, the field is fixed, and there would be no method of controlling voltage.
Well, if you put power into an electric generater then it would turn just as a motor does. They're the same thing only in reverse...... 'they are but different manifestations of the same thing' to quote Einstein.
they're comparable in that they are built in an almost comparable style. they're based on the theory of electromagnetism. In a motor the rotor has cord coils which generate a pulsing magfnetric field whilst a contemporary is [undergone them. those fields work together with the electromagnetic coils fastened to the stator (they dont circulate). those coils additionally produce magnetic fields whilst a contemporary is undergone them. . In different words there is an interplay between 2 contraptions of magnetic fields generated with the help of the electromagnetic coils; one is pulsing , the different isn't. This interplay is one in all successive moments of charm and repulsion bby the interacting magnetic fields. This interest then motives the shaft to coach thereby producing mechanical capability. In a generator, the shaft is became with the help of a mechanical stress such as an engine. fastened to the shaft are coils which generate magnetic fields whilst a contemporary is undergone them. As those coils and magnetic fields bypass the coils fastened to the stator (the backside), they bring about a contemporary in those coils. This contemporary is then taken from the generator. A generator then only works in opposite to a motor. this is achievable to make vehicles and generatiors that have basic magnets and fields interacting with coils (electromagnets) to offer the wanted consequence yet those are no longer as useful as those which use electromagnetic coils particularly than basic magnets.
