Are coaches and upper management names placed on it or players only?? Also is their any specifics of who gets to hoist it first and the order it's passed around? I ask this because I've seen lesser role players carry it first before more deserving players...I'm not sure if it matters hey you won the Cup right but is there some kind of pecking order or is it passed to any player the previous player picks??? Thx just curious...
Like the Grey Cup that is awarded to the winner of the Canadian Football League, the names of the winning players, coaches, management, and club staff are engraved on the base and rings of the Stanley Cup. However, the Stanley Cup is the only trophy in professional sports that has names engraved upon its chalice. Usually, the team captain holds the Cup up first, but sometimes it goes to the elderstatesman of the team as well. (whats with the bad rating? who ever did that i hope gets attacked by a pack of dogs later)
Players, coaches, and owners and club staff all appear on the cup. In fact after the Dallas Stars the league placed a limit on the number of names that could be on the cup because they put every member of the training staff now matter how small of a role they had with the organization on the cup. The first player to hoist the Cup is the team Captain (not always the most skilled but the role player is often the captain).
There's a virtual....simulation, I guess you can call it, of the Cup on the Hall of Fame website. You can rotate, zoom in, zoom out, that sort of thing. I'd give you the full link except I'm on a crappy Windows 2000 computer and it'll probably freeze if I log on there.
