Question:

How big is a NASCAR car's fuel cell? I think it is 19 gallons but a buddy of mine says 64.?

I know this is a dumb question but we got to talking about it over beers at our favorite Pub and the coasters had NASCAR trivia questions. My question wasn't on the coaster.Any-hoo. Anyone know the answer?

Answer:

believe it is 22 on a good day 13 when there is a restrictor race or if nascar mandates it
It varies from track to track. It ranges from 13 gallons to 18 gallons.
Depends on the track! Restrictor plates are like 13 gallons and other tracks I believe are 19definately not 64!
Because it would take longer to fill the cars up by hose or tank. Seriously. A good pit stop today is 13-14 seconds. When's the last time it took you 13-14 seconds to get 11-16 gallons of gas? Never. Because pumping the gas into the cas is alot slower than their 11 gallon tanks that they use now. Instead of 13-14 second pit stops, we would have like 5 minute pit stops. There's no fun on that. EDIT: Wait. Are you talking about a hose like they use in open wheel racing? If so, then I think it's, because of where the tank opening is located on the car, the hose would be in the way for the rear tire changer tire carrier. EDIT: Corundogs ~ Hey man, I'm a NASCAR only fan. The only reason I thought of the open wheel thing is because I remember the CSI Miami episode that was done on it. So, as far as safety issues, I'm was unaware of them. Like I said, I am a NASCAR only fan. Sorry.
It's just under 18 gallons, about 17.5 gallons but I've also seen it listed at 17.8 gallons somewhere. They went to basically a uniform fuel cell this year except at Vegas (about 13 gallons), because the repaved surface made the speeds too fast and tire wear became an issue. They used to have smaller ones at the super speedways but they have eliminated them.
